2008 – A Fantastic DayWe would like to express our sincere thanks all participants and sponsors for your wonderful support in helping us to raise over $60,000 for 27 children’s and medical research charities at the 2008 regatta. With 38 yachts racing the event was a huge success. The weather was a perfect 23 degrees as a moderate northeast breeze of 13 knots blew in just as the race was starting. The 130 guests aboard the VIP boat all cheered and sipped their champagne as the race got underway at 1.00 p.m. sharp.
‘Toy Box’ sponsored by Wey Technology crossed the finish line 3 minutes ahead of ‘Trieste’ sponsored by Arab Bank to take out the Financial Markets Charity Cup. ‘Losel’ sponsored by Telstra was a close 3rd and whilst the fast finishing UBS ‘Wildthing’ – winner of the 2006 event finished 4th.
In Division 2, ‘Sirius’ sponsored by HP took first place with Westpac’s ‘Blue Manna’ and Infact Consulting’s ‘Hijinx’ taking out 2nd and 3rd.
In Division 3 ‘Heaven’ sponsored by Thomson Reuters Legal and Tax took out first place and a very creditable 6th overall whilst Antimoney also sponsored by Thomson Reuters Legal and Tax came second and ‘Bacchus’ crewed by a number of charity staff came 3rd.
The after party rocked till after 9 p.m. to the music of Carribean Soul and a good time was had by all sipping the delicious wines donated by Seppelt Salinger, T’Gallant and Gabiano. We look forward to seeing you all again in October 2009. We hope to assemble a fleet of 60 yachts – so please reserve your places early for next year by emailing david.brocklehurst@thomsonreuters.com
A special thank you to all the kind owners who donated their yachts for the event and sincere thanks to all our fantastic sponsors who participated in and supported the event. See below.
