THE CHARITY FOUNDATION

The Australian Stock Exchange and Reuters Australia joined forces in 1999 to form a Charity Foundation with the objective of helping Australian based children’s and medical research charities by organizing fundraising events in conjunction with the Financial Markets.

The most recent event was the annual Financial Markets Charity Golf Day held in February 2009 which helped raise $1.3 million for 27 children’s and medical research charities.

To date, the combined funds distributed to a wide range of charities totals just over $20 million making this event the most successful one day charity golf event of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.

Funds are raised by holding an annual golf tournament, dinner, auction, art union and now also a Charity Sailing Regatta The Foundation has also organized a Charity Art Exhibition.

Participants

Participants in the Regatta and the Golf Day include top executives from financial and corporate Australia. The CEOs, Chairmen and Senior Executives of companies like NAB, Macquarie Bank,  Morgan Stanley, Westpac, ANZ Investment Bank, Telstra, BT Global and many others compete in the race. A number of these companies have already committed to enter a yacht in the 2009 Regatta.

Sponsorships

Sponsors are sought to cover as many of the costs as possible to maximize the amount distributed to the charities.

The Board and Secretariat

The Board is made up of executives from both the ASX and Thomson Reuters with the chair alternating between the two companies every few years.

The detailed fundraising is arranged through a full and part time Secretariat headed by a General Manager.
