2009 – ASX Thomson Reuters Charity RegattaUnder clear skies and a brisk 25 knot S/W wind over 400 guest sailors on 35 yachts enjoyed a fast and exciting race around the buoys on Sydney Harbour on Friday 16 October 2009. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the 130 spectators had a fantastic view of the race as they tucked into a seafood buffet washed down with St Arnou beer and Wild Oats wines on board the Captain Cook III.
Line honours and the Financial Markets Charity Cup went to BG Capital Partners on board the lovely Frers 61 – Margaret Rintoul V. Congratulations to Lawrie Gibbs, Graham Buckeridge and the crew. An exciting tussle for 2nd place was won by Talent 2 on ‘You’re Hired’. Well done to Paula Baskus and the team from Talent 2 (they won in 2007). The United Airlines team – captained by Chris Petty came a close 3rd on Toybox (which won last year).
SCG Trust on Stormaway won Division 2 under the leadership of keen sailor Christine Soars of the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust and Skipper Jack Stening.
Division 3 was won by the team from National Australia Bank on Sea G. Congratulations to Peter Coad – who has been a strong supporter of the day since the beginning.

The after party got into full swing at Middle Harbour Yacht club to the music of Jelly Bean Jam. The auction and raffle were popular and helped raise $75,000 for 20 Children’s and Medical research charities. This will be added to the $1 million we are targeting to raise from the annual golf day and gala dinner in February 2010.
A special thank you to all the kind owners who donated their yachts for the event and sincere thanks to all our fantastic sponsors. See below.
